Season Opener Suspended With Paints Leading 4-0 in the 2nd.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health Sytem, saw their opening night come to an early and abrupt end Wednesday night at Carleton Davidson Stadium, with heavy rain forcing the teams off the field in the top of the second inning with the Paints leading 4-0 over the Champion City Kings.

Santrel Farmer was already 2-2 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs, to go along with three stolen bases. His run opened the scoring in the top of the first. After a leadoff infield hit to second base, Farmer stole second. With one out, Jeron Williams reached first after being hit by a pitch. Farmer and Williams pulled off a double-steal, advancing an extra base when the throw to second by Kings catcher Ethan Krizen skipped into center field, making it 1-0. Tim Orr struck out swinging, but had to be thrown out at first after a dropped third strike, allowing Williams to score, making it 2-0.

Sebastian Escobar got the start on the mound for the Paints, working a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the first, including a pair of strikeouts.

Hunter Klotz walked to lead off the top of the second for Chillicothe, later advancing to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball. Connor Ashby later walked and stole second, putting runners at second and third. With two down, Farmer singled into center field, scoring Klotz and Ashby and giving Chillicothe a 4-0 lead. Mike Sprockett was at the plate with a 2-1 count when home plate umpire Jimmy Craig called everyone off the field due to increasingly hard rain, later calling the game for the night.

The game will resume the next time the Paints travel to Champion City - June 21 - at 5:35 p.m. and will be finished as a nine-inning game. The regularly-schedued game will follow as a seven-inning affair.

Next up for Chillicothe is the club's home opener Thursday night at VA Memorial Stadium. The Paints host Champion City at 7:05 p.m. It's Thirsty Thursday with $2 draft beer and, after the game, there is a postgame Fireworks Extravaganza by 94 Country.
