Chillicothe Loses Homer Fest 8-3 at Champion City
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, found themselves on the short end of a home run derby of sorts Tuesday night at Carleton Davidson Stadium, losing to the Champion City Kings 8-3 in a game that featured seven home runs.
Jimmy Nugent got the scoring started with a two-run home run, giving the Paints (33-16, 11-7) an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
Champion City (23-26, 13-7) got a solo home run from Blake Buzzeo in the bottom of the third and a solo home run from Ben Bach in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game at 2-2.
Chillicothe took its second lead of the night in the top of the fifth, scoring on CJ Dean's first home run of the season, making it 3-2.
The Kings' David Novak hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, putting Champion City back in front 4-3.
Jake Sherman hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh and Bach hit his second solo shot of the game a few batters later, making it 7-3.
The only run of the night that wasn't scored via a home run was Champion City's eighth, a wild pitch brought home Brayden Quincel to finish the scoring.
Chillicothe returns home Wednesday night to start a two-game series with the Jackson Rockabillys at VA Memorial Stadium. It's DIME-A-DOG Night, sponsored by Ritchie's Foods and Heiner's Bakery. It's also Winning Wednesday, which includes a gas giveaway from Velero. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
