Paints Add SIUE Pitcher Garrett Helsel

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The back-to-back Prospect League champion Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, have signed pitcher Garrett Helsel for the upcoming 2024 season, which begins May 28.

Currently in his sophomore season at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Helsel has made 11 appearances, including five starts, this spring. The 6-foot-5 lefthander has struck out 25 batters over 28 2/3 innings, while walking 17.

As a freshman last season, Helsel went 3-1 on the mound for the Cougars in 19 appearances, including three starts. For his efforts, he earned an All-Freshman selection in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Out of Gahanna Lincoln High School, the Blacklick native was ranked the 18th-best left-handed pitcher in the state of Ohio for the class of 2022 and a "High Follow" nationally.
