Paints Top Kings 15-7 To End Homestand

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - After a rocky start, The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, defeated the Champion City Kings 15-7 Saturday night at VA Memorial Stadium.

An error on the first play of the game led to Champion City scoring the first run of the game on an RBI single by Louis Florida, giving the Kings a 1-0 advatnage, which lasted until the bottom of the second.

Samuel Fabian led off the bottom of the second inning with the Paints' first home run of the season, tying the game at 1-1. Chillicothe then took advantage of some free base runners, scoring three more on a wild pitch, an RBI hit from Eric Colaco and a Felix Polanco sacrifice fly, taking a 4-1 lead.

Champion City answered with four runs of their own on just one hit in the next half-inning, taking advantage of a Paints error and a three-run triple by Lucas Day, putting the Kings back in front 5-4 after the top of the third.

Chillicothe regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a double-steal and a wild pitch, amking it 6-5.

The Kings answered again, this time scoring two runs without a hit and taking advantage of another Paints' error - their third in the first four inning - giving the visitors the 7-6 lead.

After Chillicothe regained control with a four-run fifth, Scotty Adelman came on to pitch for the Paints in the sixth, retiring all nine batters he faced.

With a 10-7 lead, the Paints added two more in the sixth, another in the seventh and two more in the eighth, making it 15-7, the eventual final. 

Paints first baseman Clay Burdette finished the night 5-5 at the plate with two doubles, four runs scored, two stolen bases and two RBIs. 

The Paints and Kings play again Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at Springfield, Ohio's Carleton Davidson Stadium.
