Paints Fall To Kings 11-4 in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, took an early lead Sunday, but Champion City's offense was too much in an 11-4 loss at Springfield's Carleton Davidson Stadium.

Eric Colaco doubled with one out in the top of the first, stealing third base and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Felix Polanco and giving the Paints (2-2) and early 1-0 lead, but it didn't last long.

In the bottom of the second, Champion City (2-3) struck for five runs, taking a 5-1 lead that was never relinquished.

The Paints got one back in the top of the third on another Polanco sacrifice fly, scoring Ben Schechterman and cutting it to a 5-2 ballgame. 

The Kings turned to the long ball starting in the bottom of the fourth, as Salvador Diaz hit the first of five Champion City home runs.

Nicholas Weyrich homered in the bottom of the fifth, making it 7-2.

Chillicothe's Ty Hatfield singled home Trevor Coltenback in the top of the sixth, bringing the Paints one closer at 7-3.

In the next half-inning, the Kings hit back-to-back home runs, as Diaz hit his second home run of the night and Lucas Day launched his first of the season. 

Weyrich hit his second home run of the night in the bottom of the eighth, a two-run shot, extending Champion City's lead to 11-3

The Paints got the final run of the game in the top of the ninth when Schechterman singled home Jack Rollo, making it 11-4.

Chillicothe is off Monday, they Paints return to VA Memorial Stadium to start three-game series with the Full Count Rhythm Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday is Ross County Sheriff's D.A.R.E.
