Paints Fall To Champion City, 12-4

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, couldn't get anything going Thursday night at VA Memorial Stadium, losing the the Champion City Kings 12-4.

Joe Ricchio capped a six-run first inning with a grand slam, giving Champion City (5-8) a 6-0 lead.

The Paints (8-4) got one back in the bottom of the first, scoring on an error and cutting it to a 6-1 ballgame.

The Kings made it 7-1 in the fifth and then scored five more in the seventh, taking a 12-1 lead.

Chillicothe was able to score three times in the bottom of the seventh, taking advantage of an Alex Bemis RBI groundout, a Kings error and a Charlie Scholvin two-out RBI single, bring the margin back under 10 at 12-4, the eventual final.

Chillicothe pitching walked a season-high 12 batters and hit another four. Seven of Champion City's 12 runs were scored by players who reached via a walk or a hit by pitch. Offensively, the Paints had one hit through four innings, and didn't have a multi-hit innings until the seventh.

The Paints look to get back in the win column Friday at home against Champion City at 7:05 p.m. The first 500 fans receive a Paints rally towel, courtesy of the Chillicothe Paints Booster Club and, thanks to a generous donation by Accurate Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, all dads who attend the game with their kid(s) get free admission.
