Paints Hang On To Beat Kings, 13-12

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, built a 13-1 lead midway through the game Friday night, hanging on the win 13-12 over Champion City.

Chillicothe's (9-4) first five batters in the bottom of the first reached and scored as part of a six-run first inning.

The Paints made it 7-0 with a run in the bottom of the third and made it 8-1 with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Chillicothe added five more in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five times on two hits and taking advantage of three walks and two hit batters. It was 13-1 Chilliicothe after five.

Champion City (5-9) scored the final 11 runs of the game, scoring five runs in the sixth, including a two-out, three-run double from Caden Miller. 

The Kings tacked on another in the seventh, cutting the Paints' lead to 13-7.

In the top of the eighth, the Kings took advantage of three Paints errors and three timely hits, scoring five unearned runs and getting to within one run at 13-12.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, Nick Weyrich hit a ground ball to third. The throw to first was off the mark and the ball kicked down the foul ground area in right field. Weyrich advanced to second and then headed for third, where he was thrown out by right-fielder Samuel Fabian, ending the game.
