Paints Sweep Doubleheader Against Johnstown
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, earned 16-4 and 11-4 wins over the Johnstown Mill Rats Sunday evening, sweeping the doubleheader and grabbing their third straight win.
In game one, Felix Polanco homered in the bottom of the second to start the scoring. Chillicothe made a three-run inning on Eric Colaco's two-run double.
Chillicothe scored four more in the third, making it 7-0.
Johnstown got on the board in the top of the fourth, but Chillicothe asnwered with four more in the bottom of the inning, making it 8-2.
Carter Rust hit a two-run home run for Johnstown in the top of the fifth, bringing the Mill Rats to within 11-5.
The Paints added three more in the fifth, making it 14-4, before the Mill Rats scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings to cap the scoring at 14-6.
Polanco and Cole Raile each went 3-4 with three RBIs, while Jhors Gomez went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored. Colaco and Clay Burdette both drove in two while every Paints hitter collected at least one hit. Chillicother collected seven extra-base hits in the game.
In game two, it was Johnstown scoring the first runs of the game in the top of the second with a two-run home run from Taylor Freeman, but the Paints answered quickly.
In the bottom of the second, Matt Wolfe doubled home Reid Douglas and Ethan Brown hit a sacrifice fly, tying the game at 2-2.
Chillicothe scored five times in the bottom of the third. Three wild pitches brought home the first three of the inning, then Brown knocked home a run with a single and Scotty Adelman, who pitched in game one, knocked in a run with a pinch-hit double down the line, making it 7-2.
The Mill Rats made things interesting in the top of the fourth, scoring a run on Joey Perry's sacrifice fly and then Logan Myers hit a three-run double, cutting the Paints' lead to 7-6.
Chillicothe would score the final three runs of the game for the 11-6 win.
Eight different Paints collected a hit, Brown had two and drove in four.
Chillicothe now owns the best record in the Prospect League at 32-16, they return to action Wednesday night at VA Memorial Stadium against the Lafayette Aviators at 7:05 p.m. The first 500 fans will receive a free back-to-back champions t-shirt, courtesy of Shine Orthodontics.
