Paints Beat Kings 10-8 in Final Regular Season Game

CHILLiCOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, finished the regular season with a 10-8 win over the Champion City Kings at VA Memorial Stadium Wednesday night.

Champion City (18-38) took a 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth, scoring five times on four hits.

Chillicothe (36-20) began to claw back in the bottom of the fifth. Ty Hatfield walked with one out, stole second base and scored on an RBI hit from Jhors Gomez, cutting it to a 6-2 ballgame.

In the bottom of the sixth, Clay Burdette doubled to right field, advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a groundout by Waskar Martinez, bringing the Paints to within three at 6-3.

The Paints' big inning came in the seventh. Eric Colaco doubled to open the inning and Hatfield walked. Gomez followed, hitting a sharp ground ball to second that was misplayed, allowing Colaco to score. Cole Raile then hit a ground ball to first and the throw to second went into to left field, allowing Hatfield to score. Cameron Bowen brought home another on a sacrifice fly and, after Felix Polanco singled and a double steal, Burdette drove home the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly, giving the Paints their first lead at 7-6.

Gomez picked up an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, a Raile groundout plated another and Bowen's double down the line in left scored a third run in the inning, extending the Paints' lead to 10-6.

Champion City scored twice in the top of the ninth, but Chillicothe held on to win, which was the largest come-from-behind win of the season after erasing a five-run deficit.

The Paints finish the regular season and head into the playoffs with the Prospect League's best record. They also got their 20th home win, a feat the Paints have now achieved in three straight seasons and nine times in 15 seasons.

Chillicothe now hosts the Northeast Division Championship Game Thursday against the Johnstown Mill Rats at 7:05 p.m. It's a Thirsty Thursday with $2 domestic drafts and Jamie Baxter will play live on the deck after the game for Party with the Paints by Budweiser.
